Our team is building a vision solution with the specific intention of generalizing autonomy to all off-highway machine forms. Too many people spend their lives on top of tractors, shakers, harvesters, sprayers, shuttles, and the like. This leads to all kinds of ill effects for them and society at large.
Bonsai believes in a future where machine operations are easy, orchestrated by the cloud, and cheap. This a future where basic industries like agriculture, mining, and construction are safer, where labor isn't a constraint on production, and cost of operations is not an impediment to better environmental practices like cover crops and off-ground harvesting.
The issue is that right now most autonomy systems are not built to handle adverse conditions like dust, debris, vibration, or loss of GPS. Bonsai is pioneering a hardware-light, vision-centered approach for autonomy--this means that like a human, Bonsai's perception software sees the world in 2D and recognizes things in the world and from the things the software recognized builds a 3D world. This has not been possible until recently because it is very intensive in AI / ML and in computation--as far as we know Bonsai is the first to pursue this path.
